About the Marina

The marina took its name from a Napolionic gun emplacement and today the marina is home to the Royal Western YC and it’s often used to hold international racing events like the Round Britain Race and the Trans Atlantic Race due to its location and excellent facilities. Because of this, and unlike most of MDL’s marinas, it offers around 60 dedicated berths for visitors - more if resident berth holders are away at the time. The visitors area is a continuous pontoon on the inside of the breakwater, and at busy times of the season you may be rafted up 3 or 4 deep - Contact the marina office on VHF Ch80 or tel 07740 806039 for all berthing enquires.

Marina Approaches

Head for South Mallard SCM VQ(6)+LFl10s in line with Beacon Oc.G1.3s bearing 349°. Round Mount Batten Pier Head and keeping to the starboard side of the Cobblers Channel head for QAB entrance. At night, a WRG sector light situated in the clock tower on top of the marina building indicates the approach through the Cobbler Channel. Beware that the neighbouring Sutton Harbour marina shares the same approaches and outward bound traffic has priority. The visitors area is tucked behind the marina breakwater.
