About the Marina

Kemps Quay has been a family run business for over three generations. It's one of four marinas that reside on the River Itchen which feeds into Southampton Water and accordingly it enjoys direct access to the Solent. One of the down sides of this marina is that of the 260 berths available, only 50 are non tidal and afloat at all times, and the remainder are semi-tidal. The hours afloat on these berths varies in direct proportion to their proximity to the shore. The river bed is soft mud, and lots of it, so the tidal zone can therefore accommodate all types of propulsion and keel configurations. Like all the marinas on the River Itchen, with the exception of Shamrock Quay, there are no dedicated visitors berths here which adds to the limited scope of this marina. The other unfortunate aspect of the marina is that its on the wrong side of the Itchen for the city centre of Southampton. However it has the advantage over all the other marinas in that the Bitterne station is a just 500m away and can get you into town much faster then the other marinas can by foot. Furthermore, the Northam Road which is a main arterial road into Southampton, runs past the marina which has a regular convoy of buses running into town.

Marina Approaches

The marina is about 1500m north of the Itchen road bridge. Coastal commercial traffic uses this stretch of the water quite frequently, so keep well to the starboard side of the Itchen and cross swiftly into the marina entrance.

The marina is accessible ±3hrs HW
