About the Marina

The RNYC marina is located in a well sheltered corner just inside the harbour entrance of Blyth and therefore enjoys almost immediate access to the sea 24 hours a day. The marina has 75 fully serviced pontoon berths and a further 20 for’n’aft moorings. Visitors are usually berthed on the north side of the most northerly pontoon are are welcome to use the marina yacht club facilities on board the clubship 'HY Tyne' - a wooden lightship built in 1880 which has a restaurant bar, showers and toilets facilities.

The centre of Blyth is about a 20min walk from the marina, although there are corner shops along the way and although fuel is not available in the harbour there are garages nearby selling road diesel. Busses frequently run past the road entrance to the marina which can go all the way to Newcastle. The marina is superbly located for visiting Alnwick Castle of Harry Potter fame and the World heritage site of Hadrian's Wall.

Marina Approaches

Blyth is a commercial Port so all yachts need to keep a listening watch on VHF Ch 12 for shipping movements. Although the marina has 24 hours access, the combination of low tide and strong SE winds can render the approach a bit difficult. Stay on the correct side of the fairway until clear to make your turn into the South Harbour, leaving sufficient space at the round end for vessels leaving. Berth on the north side of the most northerly pontoon.
