About the Marina

The Lowestoft Haven marina is owned and run by Associated British Ports (APB) and when it opened in 2004 it was a welcome boost to the much needed local economy. The marina is located at the far end of Lake Lothing opposite the Lowestoft Cruising Club marina, less then two miles from the harbour entrance and the only obstacle in reaching the marina is the lifting bridge at the mouth of the harbour. The 190 berth marina is also adjacent to the Mutford lock- the seaborne entrance to the Norfolk Broads- making the marina a popular destination for club rallies wishing to explore the Broads or going enroute to the Continent.

Marina Approaches

The outlying dangers off Lowestoft are well marked and the safest 'catch all’ to shape up for is the North Newcome Buoy, Fl(4)R.15s. A pair of white painted light towers at the ends of the outer piers marks the entrance into the harbour. All vessels are advised to listen out for Lowestoft Harbour Control, on VHF Ch14. The end of the South Pier has a traffic light which uses IPTS signals:

RED RED RED (vertical): vessels should not proceed.
GREEN WHITE GREEN (vertical): a vessel may proceed only when it has received specific orders to do so.

Vessels making for the Haven marina need to pass through the lifting bridge.
The Bridge will only be opened on demand for commercial shipping, However, small craft may use a bridge opening for commercial shipping provided that prior arrangement has been made with Lowestoft Harbour Control - VHF Channel 14, telephones 572286.
Otherwise all small craft wishing to use the bridge must notify the Lowestoft Harbour Control at least 20mins in advance of the following opening times;

Mon-Fri:0300, 0500, 0700, 0945, 1115, 1430, 1600, 1900, 2100, 2400.
Sat, Sun, Bank Hol: 0300, 0500, 0700, 0945, 1115, 1430, 1600, 1800, 1900, 2100, 2400.
