About the Marina

The Heybridge Basin is where the Chelmer & Blackwater navigation meets the River Blackwater. The 13 mile long canal goes all the way to Chelmsford and the basin was dug out of the sea in order for the colliers’ barges to unload their cargo for the journey inland. Today, Heybridge Basin is a haven for pleasure craft of all ages and sizes and more importantly the traditional barges of yesteryear are still in abundance. The haven is also a key focal point for many of the regions local walks, using the haven as a staring point for walks along the sea wall to Maldon and beyond. Two pubs and a tea room are immediately at hand within the basin and there are some shops in the village of Heybridge about a mile up the tow path, turning right at the road that crosses the canal. If one is feeling enthusiastic, you can take a dinghy trip up the canal to Maldon where one can land behind a Tesco superstore. Its strongly recommended to book at least 24hrs in advance during the summer season.
