Halfway up the southern shores of the River Orwell is the Royal Harwich Yacht Club Marina, a facility owned and run by the yacht club itself. Over the years the marina capacity has grown to 54 fully serviced pontoon berths, and although all the berths are occupied by club members, the club proudly claims it never turns away visiting yachts. Indeed the club regularly attracts well over 1200 visitors each year and its a favoured destination with visitors from Holland, Belgium and Germany.
The marina facilities and services are so good here that there’s little reason to leave the premises, including an on-site provisions store, chandlery, restaurant bar, fuel, engineering services, an excellent library in the club house, and the marina also boasts to have the only pump out facility on the River Orwell.
The marina has full tidal access and can accommodate yachts up to 4.5m LOA on the outer hammerheads. A favourite shore side excursion is the river side walk to Pin Mill renowned for its old building yards and the ‘Butt & Oyster’ pub which serves great food.
