About the Marina

This is where the River Brent and the Grand Union Canal meets the Thames making it perhaps one of the most important marinas on the Thames River. During the 18th Century, this was a working dock and formed part of Brunel’s plan to create a freight link between the Thames and the Great Western Railway network serving the West County and other parts of the UK. The increased use of the roads forced the dock to close in 1964 and during the 70’s the dock was regenerated into the Brentford Dock Estate. The estate includes a supermarket and the Brentford High St has laundry facilities, banks, a post office, restaurants, pubs, coffee shops, British Rail and London Bus links, etc.

Marina Approaches

The Brentford Marina lock can be accessed approximately ±2.5 hrs HW. Boats with deeper draughts may only be able to enter and leave between approximately ±2 hrs HW. LW is approximately 7 to 8 hours after High Water.

The marina lock is hydraulic and has working dimensions of approximately 9.8 metres (32 feet) and 4.8 metres (16 feet). Boats over 32 feet enter at high water on free-flow by prior arrangement. Free-flow can be used when tide is higher than 6.7 meters and approximately 30 minutes before and 15 minutes after high tide.

The outside pontoon is available for short term mooring when entry is not possible through lock.
